Learn more about Dr. Elizabeth Hentschel, Ph.D.

I began developing a specialty in perinatal mental health during my pregnancies and miscarriages.

As a mama of two young children, and friend or family to many who have navigated parenting journeys, I bring a lot of compassion to the work that I do. Parenting really does involve some of the biggest and most challenging transitions in life, along with unique opportunities.

A provider needs to understand your concerns within the context of this specific period. That goes for your medical team and anyone else supporting you. Research on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders guides the treatment I provide, and as a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist, I have committed to always contributing to this growing specialty. As a foundation, I earned a doctorate in Counseling Psychology and have worked in many integrated healthcare settings.

I collaborate with each person to set goals that signify change that matters to them. Sometimes we need to manage distress, and sometimes we have a chance to prevent it. When we work together, we may explore your history as it relates to patterns that have developed in the present, but I will focus on your experience today. Therapy draws on your own wisdom and enhances skills you already have, while providing insight and teaching new tools as well.

You may still be wondering if psychology is for you. I like to think of it this way. If someone were to tell you that your life will completely change tomorrow, who would you want on your team? If you are someone hoping to grow your family, grieving a loss, experiencing pregnancy, parenting, or something else, these experiences change you. They just do. Would it help to have an additional, objective expert partnering with you?
